Plus My Top Picks of Santa’s Workshop Worthy Gift Wrapping Tools
Not only will creating your own organized holiday gift wrap station save you time and help you keep organized, but it will also save you money! Here’s my step-by-step approach to setting up your own well-organized holiday gift wrapping station that fits your budget and needs.
You might be wondering if having a specialized gift wrapping station is actually worth it. But I believe this is one of many areas where you can position yourself for holiday organization success and, in the end, save a considerable amount of time in your busy holiday schedule. When we’re feverishly rushing to wrap a holiday present, it’s usually because we’re running out of time.
The last thing you want to do is dash around the house on Christmas Eve looking for the final few inches of tape you have—maybe somewhere—because the roll you were using just ran out.
It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive to set up a gift wrapping station, but it can save your sanity in those last-minute moments. You can make a gift-wrapping station in a number of different ways. Some people have the option of dedicating a whole portion of their built-in cabinets to gift wrapping. Others can only fit all of their wrapping paper in a bin underneath their bed.
And both of those are perfectly OK! It isn’t important for it to be picture-perfect.
The idea is that you simply need to devise an organized strategy that will assist you in efficiently wrapping gifts so that you don’t waste time looking for the things you need.
Finding Your Gift Wrapping Station Space
It’s important to think about two factors when determining what kind of gift wrapping station you want to set up:
- You should think about how much space you have.
- You should think about how much you enjoy wrapping presents.
If you dislike wrapping presents, a large box underneath your bed from which you can just pick out a gift bag and some tissue paper and assemble a gift might be the best option for you.
However, if you enjoy crafting elegantly wrapped gifts, setting up a fancy gift wrapping station can be the perfect solution for you!
One compromise that is very efficient and easier to set up than you might think is to create a gift wrapping cart. It’s quite easy because you can simply pull out the cart and have all of your gift-wrapping items at your fingertips. Carts store easily in a space under the stairs, in a pantry, or even in a hallway closet.
Another plus? A gift wrapping cart will help you make the most of snatched free minutes if you- like many of us – need to wrap gifts ‘in secret’ so that their contents remain a mystery until the big day. Have a few minutes before everyone gets home? Grab a cup of coffee, pull out your gift wrap cart, and get a gift wrapped fast and easy!
Declutter Last Year’s Gift Wrapping Supplies
My first piece of advice is to go through your current gift wrap and declutter what you already have. You’ll probably find multiple rolls of wrapping paper that have only a few inches of wrapping paper on them but would take up a lot of space at your station.
Some of them may be useful for wrapping tiny gifts, while others may be pointless to hold on to. However, the goal is to get rid of gift wrap that you no longer enjoy or that is so torn and wrinkled that you wouldn’t give it to someone else.
As you look through your existing gift wrap, you’ll get a decent idea of what you need to buy. Most likely, you’re out of tape, your scissors are dull, or all of your tissue paper is crumpled to a point where it’s unrecognizable. Make a list of everything you’re running low on, and make a plan to replenish your gift-wrapping supplies.
Organize a Gift Wrap Stock Up List
The major purpose of the present wrapping station is to ensure that you are fully prepared, even if you are wrapping gifts for someone at the last minute.
It doesn’t mean you should run out and buy an abundance of gift wrap goods; rather, you should have enough to be prepared. And it’s not like you’re stocking up on stuff you wouldn’t have required in the first place; you’re simply planning ahead.
- Gift Boxes
- Wrapping Paper
- Tape
- Scissors that are razor sharp (nobody likes wrapping presents with dull scissors)
- Gift bags are available in a variety of sizes and for a variety of holidays.
- Colored tissue paper
- String or baker’s twine
- White tissue paper (my favorite)
- Gift tags
- Ribbon
- Sharpie marker
- Gift tags
Get Matching Gift Wrap Supplies
Consider how your present wrap elements will work together when setting up your gift wrapping station. Purchasing gift wrap that is compatible with a variety of other elements of your gift wrapping materials will help you save a lot of hassle!
Another wonderful suggestion is to keep the majority of your gift wrapping supplies in neutral colors.
You might want to switch up your wrapping paper every year, but you could also maintain a stockpile of neutral ribbons, strings, and gift tags on hand so that any paper you choose will always coordinate and match.
Organize Gift Wrap by Color and Size
Organizing your gift wrap by color and size is another crucial aspect of holiday gift wrap organization. This will make it much easier to find exactly what you need in those last-minute situations.
You’ve wasted time if you’re looking for a small gift bag and are frantically hunting through all of the medium and large gift bags for one. If you organize your gift bags by size, you’ll find it much easier to find the exact size you need at any given time.
It’s also a good idea to organize your stuff by color. It’s a lot simpler to find that black gift tag that matches your buffalo check wrap when you’re wrapping a Christmas present if everything is color-coded.
Again, it’s only a minor time saver, but when all of those small incremental moments are added together, they add up to a significant time savings during what is always a rather hectic time.
