Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The simplest things make a hotel stay feel luxurious: fluffy towels, clean sheets, small amenities, and new toothbrushes available anytime you need them. Is it possible to reproduce that same feeling of indulgence at home, even if we don’t have a magic sign we can hang on our bedroom doors to request fresh towels?

I’ve compiled a few home organization ideas to give your home the five-star treatment, and though it may necessitate some planning, the time and effort will be worth it!

Restock Your Towel Inventory

More fluffy, white bath towels are most likely required to get this home organization project off to a good start in the bathroom. I’ve always advocated maintaining at least two towels per family member as a general rule, but you’ll want to invest in three to four towels per person to achieve that hotel-level luxury.

This also allows you to use each towel for longer periods of time between washes (without having to do laundry every three days!). There’s a good reason hotels keep white towels on hand: they can be bleached without damaging them, so they’ll always seem fresh and won’t mildew. Furthermore, they can all be washed in the same load of laundry.

Another way to make your bathroom feel more hotel spa like? Invest in a towel warmer. These are relatively inexpensive, install easily and really do take stepping out of the shower to the next level of luxury.

Create a Hotel Quality Bed

Consider purchasing a few extra sets of bed sheets too when you are shopping for those towels. Think of it this way: If you alternate between the set on your bed and the set in the washer, you’ll either have to do laundry more regularly or go longer between washes. The idea is to purchase additional spare sheets so that you can have fresh, clean bedding without having to devote your life to laundry.

Make it five stars by keeping a warm spare blanket on hand, draped across the edge of your bed or tucked into a basket nearby, as recommended by those fancy boutique hotels.

Declutter Your Linen Closet

You might be wondering, “Where will I put all of these new linens?” If you have the space in your bathroom, give it a hotel feel by displaying a large pile of fluffy towels. If not, it’s time to declutter your linen closet, starting with outdated towels and bedsheets you no longer use and discarding or recycling them (animal shelters really appreciate donated bedding, and they don’t care about impossible to shift stains or strange patterns). After that, label shelves for bath towels and others for specific-size bed linens.

Five star touch: In your linen closet, keep a bottle of scented fabric spray, so you can lightly spritz linens before making the bed.

Declutter Your Nightstand

What’s the quickest method to make your bedroom feel like it belongs in a hotel in the next 15 minutes? Get rid of the clutter on your nightstand. Remove the towering stack of nightstand reading (just keep what you’re currently reading), and make room for a drink of water and a quiet reading lamp.

While it’s best to keep your phone away from your bed, if you can’t resist, invest in a sleek, wireless charger, so you won’t have to spend every night searching for misplaced cables hiding somewhere (probably all tangled up) beneath your bed.

Declutter Your Bathroom Counters

A limited, curated collection of toiletries is frequently found on an elegant tray in a hotel bathroom. At home, try the same trick and you’ll be surprised what a positive difference it makes. Purchase a storage tray and dedicate this valuable space to solely the skincare and haircare products you use on a daily basis. The rest can be stored in drawers, cabinets, or storage bins (check expiration dates while you’re at it).

Five star touch: Most hotels have extra toothbrushes that they leave in your room if you forget to bring one. Stock one drawer in your bathroom with spare toothbrushes, a new tube of toothpaste, soaps, and other items for the same effect at home. You won’t have to call the concierge because you’ll always have what you need.
