Often, one of the easiest ways to refresh your home decor – especially if you have limited time – is to make use of paint to refresh, revitalize and even completely change the mood in a living space.
The colors that will influence our houses in the upcoming year are predicted by paint manufacturers and interior design professionals every fall. 2022’s colour scheme was dominated by nature inspired greens; 2023’s colour scheme is all about individual expression. Check out the paint colors that experts have predicted so far and I’ve added some suggestions for making great use of them in your own 2023 Houston home decorating plans.
Krylon: Spanish Moss
In place of the sharp, bright whites of earlier decades, calming colors like green are quickly replacing them as the new neutral in interior design. Krylon chose Spanish Moss, a deep forest green that bows to nature, as their color of the year for 2023. The spray paint color fits well with everything and can be a very simple way to update furniture and decor.
To make use of this color try combining the deep, calming green with complementing hues that have a connection to nature, like as gold, sandstone, and copper. It may work well as an accent in a home office, bathroom or as a simple way to renew the outdoor furniture that may have taken a beating after months outside in the Texas summer sun.
Benjamin Moore: Raspberry Blush
Raspberry Blush, a vivid red-orange, is Benjamin Moore’s choice for the color of the year in 2023. It is joyful and bright. The vibrant color gives a space a vivacious appearance that is anything but timid.
Making use of such a bold color can seem daunting, but when used sparingly this could be a beautiful choice. For a maximalist approach, you could splash Raspberry Blush on walls, trim, and the ceiling to wrap a room in warmth. Or go for a smaller statement on a kitchen island or as an accent color in an otherwise neutral space. Soft shades of white and beige can balance out the bright, rosy hue.
Terra Rosa by Dunn-Edwards
Staying on the rosy side of the color wheel, Dunn-Edwards’ Terra Rosa, a rosy pink that serves as both a delicate accent and a grounding neutral, combines brown and burgundy with a lighter cream.
The warm colour can be used to add comfort to a bedroom or living area and is sweet and comfortable without being overly ‘Barbie colored’. Alternately you can use Terra Rose to make a statement on the exterior of your house, especially decks, patios and window trim.
Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams
Another pinkish shade – you’re starting to see the 2023 trend now right – A blend of blush and beige, Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams features subtle pink undertones to warm up walls almost anywhere in the home.
Redend Point is the ideal hue for injecting a dash of personality into any space. It is slightly more vibrant than most neutrals but more subdued than many brighter tones (and most pinks). The earthier tones of Redend Point will pair especially well with wood tones and the natural textures that have recently taken the design world by storm. It combines particularly well with white, which can help balance out the bolder notes of this on trend color.
Gliden: Vining Ivy
Nature-inspired nods are still in style, and Vining Ivy combines blue and green for a serene shade. Glidden Paint by PPG’s color of the year for 2023 complements both traditional and contemporary design.
You could try pairing this blue-green jewel tone with wood finishes, stone accents, and rich textures for a room that borrows from the outdoors. Or opt for smaller doses of Vining Ivy on trim, furniture, or cabinetry for a subtle dose of the soothing paint color.
Behr: Blank Canvas
Not every 2023 color of the year aims to make a statement. Blank Canvas, Behr’s pick, is a creamy shade of white that goes with practically everything.
The color of the year for 2023, according to Behr, is a cozy, welcoming white with glossy undertones. As suggested by its name, this rich color is meant to serve as a canvas for professional and amateur home designers and is a welcome contrast contrast to the stark white colors that were popular in the early 2000s.
Think adaptable, timeless, and serene when considering Blank Canvas: It can be used as a foundation to build on for a more layered design or as a focal point in a variety of home spaces.
Dutch Boy: Rustic Griege
For a cozy, goes-with-everything color, turn to Rustic Greige from Dutch Boy. Their 2023 color of the year is a blend of gray and beige with subtle red undertones that pair well with today’s trending earth-tone paint colors. Rustic Greige wraps a room in subtle warmth, making it perfect for kitchens, bedrooms, and family spaces alike.
As with most major color decisions, test these Colors of the Year out before you commit. Try a paint sample or peel-and-stick sample on your space before you pull out the paint brushes.
You can also consider smaller ways you can bring in the color before you go all-out.
