In most living rooms, a television is a must-have item. This can be tricky when decorating the room around the TV, especially as they seem to be getting bigger every year, and seeing a TV in a living room or family room that is smaller than 50 inches is becoming rare.
When it comes to decorating around a TV, often one of the best ways to do so is to make use of a great TV stand. Here I am going to take a look at some of my personal favorites, as a Houston home decorating professional AND a TV buff, as well as some of the things you should always keep in mind when shopping for a TV stand that suits your home and your home decorating style.

Sometimes the corner is just the best place to display a TV and still allow everyone to get a great view. It can also be an excellent way to make use of an often empty, neglected space.

This very striking, very different TV stand has a futuristic feel that is perfect for those who would like to incorporate their love of tech and gaming right into their home decorating. It’s also a great way to add a fireplace to the room without any mess (or chimneys) or spoiling the look of a more contemporary design scheme.
Another reason it’s great for tech fans is that it can easily accommodate TVs of up to 70 inches and of up to 300 lbs. The fireplace is fueled by electricity alone and the purple backlighting is, well, just cool. There is plenty of storage and good cord management too.

What to Look for in a TV Stand
TV Compatibility
Most TV stands will list the maximum TV size they can support as well as a weight limit for the top of the stand. Remember that TV measurements are considered diagonally when determining whether or not your TV will fit.
If you have additional sound equipment, such as a receiver or soundbar, be sure it fits within the weight restrictions. Don’t skip any of this, as the equipment you need this stand to accommodate is usually far too expensive for you to want to risk it ending up on the floor.
Size compatibility between your television and a TV stand to accommodate it is also an issue, from both a safety and a style point of view. Generally speaking, your TV should always be smaller than your media console, even if it’s just a few inches. Best case scenario, your TV will span roughly 2/3 the width of your media unit.
For example, For example, the average 65-inch TV actually measures 57 inches across, so an 86-inch console would look great! When in doubt, always size up and never down — a TV stand that’s the same size or smaller than the actual TV is a hard no.
Material
You can often pick between a more substantial, weighty unit made of solid wood and a lighter, but sometimes (but not always) less durable metal or MDF version, as you can with a lot of furniture. MDF furniture is typically lower priced, however, it requires assembly and shows wear and tear more quickly than solid wood.
Metal frames with wood or glass shelves are less common, but they last a long time, and, in terms of decor, are often the most pleasing option in a contemporary decor scheme.
Cord Management
Ugly cords are almost always a problem when trying to incorporate your TV in your overall home decorating plans, but some TV stands are especially good at helping solve the problem efficiently and stylishly.
Some TV stands include cupboards and shelves for organizing video games, routers, and sound systems. If you’re going to utilize shelves or cabinets for anything that plugs in, make sure there are holes in the back so you can run wires through. This will make powering all of your devices much easier and neater.
