Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... |
Today, it’s time for a little fun…
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was THE game of lockdown, and it wasn’t kids firing up their Nintendo Switch consoles to immerse themselves in a whole new world, the vast majority of ACNH players are adults in their 20s and 30s.
After more than 18 months, some felt the game was getting a little stale. However, on November 5th, 2021 the folks at Nintendo launched the biggest update to the game to date, with all kinds of new things in store, including a paid DLC, a first for the game, called Happy Home Paradise, an extension to the game that will allow players who focus on the interior design aspects of their home in the game to design more homes than ever before.
As a home decorating pro, I’ve been asked (a lot) in the past for tips on the best ways to decorate your home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. So, in honor of the new update, and all the new furniture, new decorating tools and new homes you’ll have to decorate, here are some of my top tips for Animal Crossing: New Horizons interior design. Enjoy (and please feel free to share your ACNH home creations with us on our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest pages, we’d love to see them)
Start with a Plan for your ACNH Homes
Players should start their interior design for Animal Crossing: New Horizons with themes and color schemes in mind, just like they would any other home design. The entire house does not have to be decorated in the same style or color palette. Instead, if they choose, gamers can choose a different theme and color for each room.
Consider how each room will be used when choosing a theme. A lunar, wizard, or library motif, for example, may be appropriate for an office or study that will be used for study or creativity. A gaming and arcade or zen motif can be appropriate for a living room that will be used for pleasure and relaxation.
Rather than trying to match a theme to a specific color scheme, players should strive to pick a color scheme that complements the theme. Unless the player is confident in their ability to create more sophisticated swatches, it is a good idea to start with one primary color and one or two accent colors. Players should think about the mood of their rooms and the colors they connect with it. That may turn out to be especially important in Happy Home Paradise, as you’ll be designing vacation homes with specific specs from ‘clients’.
Blue, for example, is peaceful and may be appropriate for a bedroom. Players can utilize a few orange-hued accents here too because blue and orange work well together. Experimenting with color and pulling hues from furniture pieces to create cohesion in the design is always a good idea as well.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Matching Furniture and Items
Many of the goods available for purchase and crafting in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are part of a larger collection. Players can take advantage of this by selecting furniture items that are supposed to complement one another and are based on a theme. For instance, if players want their bedroom to have an antique feel, they should use the full Antique furniture set rather than just one or two pieces.
Players can acquire things that go together even if certain items aren’t part of an approved set. The palm tree light, for example, may still work in a tropical-themed room with the beach chair and rattan furnishings. Even if the furniture in a particular room or area does not match the rest of the house, players want to make sure it matches in the room itself.
Using Rugs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Although they may not appear to be much, area rugs can help to bind a room together and serve as a container for all the items in the space. Rugs are available in three sizes in the game – and their seller, Saharah, is going to have their own stall on Harv’s island now – and can be utilized to distinguish distinct spaces with different roles in larger rooms. A TV and gaming area in the living room with a study or office space on the other side is an example of this.
Players should choose rugs that are proportionate to the size of the furnishings in the room. They should also aim to fit the rest of the room’s or area’s theme and color scheme.
Don’t Let Your ACNH Homes Get Cluttered!
Players may obtain a few more goods than they know what to do with at times, even with the new expanded storage options. And with lots of new furniture – and Gyroids – being introduceed- you might want to try to cram as many of these new items into your ACNH interior design as you can. But don’t. A cluttered ACNH home is as bad as a cluttered real life home.
Instead, players should concentrate on removing clutter and bringing the setting closer to visual minimalism. While it may be tempting to arrange four dining seats around a round table, players may want to consider a diner booth with a square table to tidy up the room and avoid having too many chairs.
Items that don’t fit a theme or that players are unsure what to do with could be better suited to a resident villager’s home or any of the island’s outdoor places. There’s no point in trying to keep things around the house that aren’t working or don’t belong.
Players can also update their décor frequently to ensure that they can show off all of their interesting and unique items without having to do so all at once. To avoid feeling like things are becoming stale or the home is becoming too cluttered, consider switching out your decor on at least a seasonal basis.
