Welcoming and bringing your new baby home is one of the most exciting things for a new parent. What’s not as exciting is setting up the nursery, sorting through the hundreds of baby shower gifts, and organizing your new little ones belongings.
Having a baby and getting into your new routine can be stressful enough for new Moms and Dads. Here are some ideas to help keep your once tidy and neat home organized and clutter free, even with all the new baby’s stuff added into the mix.
Tame Those Piles of Tiny Clothes
One thing new parents always get as baby gifts is clothes, clothes and more clothes! One tip to keeping the clutter down with all those little tiny outfits is sorting through the sizes. Keep out the size your baby is currently in, and the next size they’ll be in. All the smaller and bigger sizes can be kept in totes in the attic, garage, closet, or basement.
Another great place to store baby clothes is right under the crib; invest in some simple flat storage bins, and they’ll typically slide right under. It will be much easier to have them safely stored and close by for when you need them and save digging through various sizes and outfits trying to find something that fits!
Designate One Kitchen Cabinet for All Things Baby Food
Once your baby starts to grow, your baby will be able to eat tons more than just milk, whether it be jarred, contained or homemade, you’ll need to have lots of it! One way not to let your kitchen be completely overrun with baby food and beverage items is to designate a kitchen cabinet to that exclusively.
What I like to suggest is to keep the baby cabinet stocked with baby bottles, formula if you use it, silverware for the little ones, and all types of baby food. By doing this, it really benefits you – the parents – when you have a hungry, fussy baby. Everything’s in one spot and easy to find!
Create Space in Your Home for a Real Play Area
As your baby gets older and becomes more active, all they want to do is play! Between plush animals, learning toys, activity centers, walkers, books, etc., your home could very easily get overcrowded with all those items that your baby needs to learn and play.
If you have a spare bedroom, extra space in your living room, a sun-room, or even a foyer, a cute and space-saving idea is to turn it into your little one’s playroom. You can make this space baby safe by covering the floor in foam puzzle piece mats, outlet covers, and making sure all furniture is secured properly to the walls.
Diaper Stations To Save Time and Your Sanity
Having set areas for diaper changes saves Mom or Dad time looking for diapers, wipes, rash creams and lotions. Having multiple organized changing tables around the house in rooms such as the living room, nursery and even the parents bedroom comes in extremely handy.
Each station should always have extra diapers, wipes, a tube of diaper rash cream/lotions, and a change of clothes to make it a super easy, and quick diaper change. If you have extra cases of diapers and wipes that need to be stored for the time being, utilize space by adding shelves to the top of your nurseries closet.
Little Bins for Your Little One’s Little Stuff
Pacifiers, hair ties and bows, socks, shoes, soaps and lotions are all tiny items that you are more than likely to lose at some point or another. A great way to declutter these items and keep them organized is to always keep bins in your baby’s nursery.
Bins can be big or small, blue or pink, whatever your preference and style is. They add such a neat touch to any room and keep the possibilities of losing items a lot slimmer, and let’s be real, no parent wants to lose their baby’s last pacifier they had on hand!
Baby Closet Organization Tips
One of the most likely areas to become chaotic quick is your baby’s closet. When you’re tired of sorting the clothes, baby gifts, etc., all the stuff you didn’t quite get to go through will probably get thrown to the back of the closet as something to be tackled later. That then quickly gets forgotten.
Adding extra storage such as shelves, bins, and hooks can help you easily avoid this problem. If your plan is to hang up all your baby’s clothes, getting size dividers can help solve the problem of not being able to find the correct size.
